It is easy to benefit from mindfulness without even realising it.
Unlike learning to juggle for example, where progress is visible, mindfulness doesn’t have an obvious external reference. If I reduce my anxiety by half, I may still just feel anxious—without recognising the improvement.
That’s why success indicators matter. A measurable reference helps track progress. I ask myself: If I were slightly less (or more) [anxious, angry, motivated, etc.], what’s one thing that would be different?
Here are some examples:
- If I were less anxious, I’d notice the smell of flowers in my garden.
- If I were less triggered, I wouldn’t take that tough weekly client call personally.
- If I were more motivated, I’d get up within five minutes of my alarm instead of snoozing for half an hour.
To get the most out of any mind training practice, defining success indicators is very important..
