Diary #274 I'll try to Acknowledge

X and I are having a heated argument—it’s like banging my head against a wall.

Then it hits me: X needs acknowledgement first. Only then can logic sink in. And not long after, I realise that I needed the same.

I could have easily replaced X with Y, Z, or A. Why? Because I’ve noticed this pattern many times. In an emotionally charged moment, if I want to increase the chance of getting my point across, I need to fully acknowledge the other person first. And if you want me to hear yours, try acknowledging me first too.

Maybe that’s why people say it’s better to let the dust settle before having a productive argument—even if it’s Round 2 of the same one.
