Diary #267 This too will pass... oh well...

“This too will pass”.  I am referring to my year-end holidays, which I have been particularly looking forward to, because it should be a proper break. 


So why remind myself that it will pass? Why not just indulge and get the most of it?  I’m certainly not against that.  

 

It is because of the type of mind training I have been doing the last 6 weeks.  Things have been getting ‘too much at times’ so I have been working on ‘equanimity’.  Each day I meditate sitting still for 30-45 mins, and I treat ALL thoughts and feelings the same: observe and let them go. This practice helps regulate my nervous system, which doesn’t distinguish between pleasant and unpleasant - only calm and excited.  I am getting conditioned to being more steady, more chilled.

 

“But this dampens the fun?!” you may say. Well, I’m trading a bit of the highs for more peace, a bit less thrill for a bit more bliss. Ahh, right now, it’s just what the doctor ordered.
