It’s Friday midday and I’m overwhelmed without realising: busy thoughts and self-doubt have been creeping in.
As often is the case, it takes someone from outside to realise, in this case my manager. She tells me to take a break, drop everything for the afternoon and weekend, and completely switch off. After all there’s nothing that can’t wait and if something does pop up, she’ll call me.
I do exactly that. So nice! It feels like going on holiday, back in the day when work didn’t follow you online. In just 3 hrs I feel invigorated. I don’t even need the whole weekend, although I take it anyway.
This happened three weeks ago and it got me thinking that my friends, family and colleagues also may not be aware when they are overwhelmed. So it’s good to remember to nudge each other when it’s time to step back, switch off and reset, and where possible to provide the conditions to do so.
