Most of my distractions, I have come to realise, don’t happen when the phone rings, or the email pops up but rather when I am transitioning-between-tasks.
It is in these ‘liminal moments’ that I am most tempted to look at that one media post and get my dopamine hit. Recognising this I now give myself a few seconds before acting, that way it is not impulsive. I still endulge in distractions but noticeably less, with minimal effort.
I picked this up on an online course by Nir Eyal called Indistractable – super interesting.
